"There were like hundreds of people wanting particular children so it depends on need," Willow said. "If a child has very high medical need, there are usually only a few families that apply. So children with less needs, there were more families."

Early Head Start:

The Early Head Start Program services are provided within the home to expectant mothers and those with children age birth through three residing in Macomb County. The goal of the program is to enhance the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of infants and toddlers from low-income families, while increasing school readiness. For pregnant women, the goal is to assist with accessing comprehensive prenatal and post-partum care and education, as well as to support parents’ efforts to fulfill their parental roles in caring, consistent, positive, and nurturing ways. Early Head Start also helps parents achieve their own goals, including educational advancement, economic security and self-sufficiency.
